Chapter 1: Motion in One Dimension Phys101

Exercise 1
A particle moving along the x axis is located at xi = 12m at ti = 1s and at xf = 4m at tf=3s. Find its displacement, and average velocity during this time interval.
Exercise 2
The coordinate of a particle moving along the x axis varies in time according to the expression: m/s, where t is in seconds.
a- Find the average velocity in the time interval t = 0s to t = 2s.
b- Find the velocity at any time
c- Find the average acceleration in the time interval t = 0s to t = 2s.
d- Find the instantaneous acceleration at any time
e- Determine the acceleration at t = 2s.
Exercise 3
A particle starts from rest from the top of an inclined plane and slides down with constant acceleration. The inclined plane is 3m long, and it takes 4s for the particle to reach the bottom. Find:
a) the acceleration of the particle.
b) its speed at the bottom of the incline.
c) the time it takes the particle to reach the middle of the incline.
Exercise 4
A particle starts from rest at t = 0 at the origin and moves in the x axis with constant acceleration a = 3 m/s2
a- Find the coordinate of the particle at any time.
b- Determine the expression of velocity at any time.
c- Determine the speed of the particle at t = 6 s.
Exercise 5
A stone is thrown upwards from the edge of a cliff 18m high as shown in Figure 2.5. It just misses the cliff on the way down and hits the ground below with a speed of 18.8m/s.
(a) With what velocity was it released?
(b) What is its maximum distance from the ground during its flight?
